Echovirus 11 (E-11), part of the Enterovirus genus, is associated with a variety of health conditions, from mild non-specific symptoms to severe systemic and neurological disorders like skin rashes, fever, meningitis, encephalitis, and acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). It poses a significant threat to neonates and infants, leading to high rates of illness and death. E-11 can be transmitted from mother to child, making infection control a challenge. In neonates, these infections can cause severe inflammatory diseases, including acute hepatitis with coagulopathy.

Without a global enterovirus surveillance program, estimating the current prevalence of severe neonatal E-11 infections or the virus's circulation rate in the population is difficult. Only the most severe cases are likely to be detected through active sample testing and typing efforts without enterovirus surveillance. Furthermore, there may be unreported and undiagnosed cases of severe neonatal enterovirus infection since non-polio enterovirus infection is often not a reportable disease. Now, a real-time PCR test can quickly and accurately identify as well as differentiate Rhinovirus and/or Enterovirus, allowing for personalized treatment and proper medical care.

CerTest Biotec’s (Zaragoza, Spain) VIASURE Rhinovirus + Enterovirus real-time PCR kit is specifically designed for the identification and differentiation of Rhinovirus and/or Enterovirus. The primer/probe design enables the detection of Enterovirus (Echovirus-11 (E-11)), facilitating early and precise diagnosis of this viral infection. The qPCR (real-time PCR) method is highly sensitive and specific, delivering reliable and accurate results quickly. The VIASURE kit offers considerable benefits in diagnosing Rhinovirus and Enterovirus infections. By specifically detecting Echovirus-11, it aids in distinguishing it from other Enterovirus family members, ensuring a more comprehensive and accurate infection assessment.

Early detection of Echovirus-11 is vital for appropriate and timely clinical management of affected patients. This includes identifying outbreaks, isolating and treating affected cases adequately, and monitoring the virus spread to implement effective control and preventive measures. Moreover, the test’s ability to differentiate between Rhinovirus and Enterovirus is invaluable as these two virus families can present similar symptoms, but their clinical implications and treatments could vary. Accurate diagnosis allows for more personalized and appropriate patient care. The VIASURE Rhinovirus + Enterovirus real-time PCR kit serves as a crucial tool for rapid and precise viral infection diagnosis, especially in Echovirus-11 cases, significantly contributing to efficient public health and healthcare management.
