Binding Site (Birmingham, UK), a developer and producer of laboratory based tests for the diagnosis and monitoring of blood cancers and immunodeficiency diseases, won the EEF (Engineering Employers Federation) Midlands Outstanding Export Award, sponsored by the UKTI (UK Trade and Investment). More...

Binding Site’s export strategy has been developed and refined for more than ten years to become integral to all aspects of the business. Initially, the export initiative was led by the sales and marketing team, but as overseas expansion gathered pace, the company drew on the support of technical, R&D, human resources, and finance departments. As a result of this multidisciplinary approach, Binding Site currently exports around 90% of its products – with the United States accounting for 47% of total sales.

The annual awards are hosted by EEF, the manufacturers’ organization, and recognize excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance, and skills development among UK manufacturers. Richard Halstead, EEF Midlands Regional Director, said, “Manufacturing is crucial to our region’s economic recovery. Companies like Binding Site are leading the way by taking a research-led approach to developing niche export markets for high value, knowledge-based products. Congratulations to them on this well deserved success.”

Binding Site will go forward to compete against other regional winners from across the UK in EEF’s National Awards final, to take place on January 26, 2012, in London (UK).
