A new chart-based laboratory order entry and results delivery system was developed by Laboratory Corp. More...
of America (LabCorp, Burlington, NC, USA) in collaboration with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Libertyville, IL, USA).

Called FirstChart, the system is designed to help accelerate electronic medical record adoption by providing doctors with a state-of-the-art connectivity solution that can be customized for their specific practices. FirstChart integrates LabCorp's comprehensive laboratory-processing abilities with Allscripts electronic medical record (EMR) technology, patient chart viewing, and enhanced workflow capabilities. The system is designed to help LabCorp customers migrate toward the use of EMRs and other technology solutions such as e-prescribing and document imaging.

"LabCorp has an adaptable connectivity strategy that allows us to connect with our clients' existing systems while maintaining the ability to accommodate future system updates,” commented Bill Haas, executive vice president of sales and marketing at LabCorp. "We recognize that clients need the ability to choose the systems that best meet their needs.”
