Blood Grouping Reagents Standardize ABO/Rh Testing on Automated System

By Labmedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Jan 2008
Ready-to-use blood grouping reagents standardize ABO/Rhesus (Rh) blood type testing on an automated microplate system, which is convenient, economic, and efficient.

The new antisera and reagent red blood cells are packaged in ready-to-use vials. More...
No handling or manipulation of the reagents is required other than to transfer them to the appropriate locations on a reagent boat. The color-coded reagents enhance process control by enabling quick visual verification of reagent placement.
The reagents are pre-qualified and standardized for optimal performance, giving them an advantage over the variability of manually prepared reagents. The elimination of dilution studies provides lot-to-lot consistency with none of the troubleshooting issues related to in-house manufactured reagents.

The new automated system is called the Olympus Prausnitz-Kustner (PK) 7200 and was developed by Olympus Diagnostics (Center Valley, PA, USA). The Olympus PK system for blood grouping and phenotyping has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA; Rockville, MD, USA).

Olympus Diagnostic Systems provides innovative products that meet the high productivity demands of hospitals, integrated healthcare delivery networks, reference labs, blood banks, and pharmaceutical labs. Olympus offers a broad standardized line of random access chemistry-immuno analyzers, lab automation systems, blood bank analyzers, and reagents.
