Rimless Tubes Make Automated Urinalysis Easy

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 15 Mar 2010
Rimless tubes are ideal for easy and efficient automated urinalysis.

The tubes have a rounded base profile to ensure efficient mixing of urine samples by the analyzer prior to testing. More...
If samples need to be retained following analysis, push-fit caps provide an efficient seal for leak-free storage

Manufactured by Sterilin (Bargoed, UK), the new, clear polystyrene tubes have 11 mL capacity and fit perfectly into the racking of leading automated urinalysis analyzers including the Sysmex (Mundelein, IL, USA) UF100 and UF1000i, Iris IQ 200 (Chatsworth, CA, USA), and Menarini sediMAX (Florence, Italy) systems.

Standard primary urine containers generally hold large sample volumes (20-50 mL), whereas the racking for most automated urinalysis systems is designed to hold 11 mL tubes. If an unsuitable primary urine tube has not been used, the urine samples can be decanted quickly and easily into the new Sterilin 11 mL tubes.

Urine analysis is one of the most common noninvasive methods for initial patient health screening; many laboratories throughout the world use automated analyzers, which are more efficient and deliver timely, accurate, and quantitative results.

Sterilin Ltd. manufactures and supplies a wide range of disposable plastic products for the life science market including Petri dishes, sample containers, pipettes, and multiwell plates.
