Kit Helps Assess Total Patient Antioxidant Status

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 24 Sep 2009
A total antioxidant status (TAS) kit complements a wide range of antioxidant products enabling a complete profile of a patient's antioxidant status.

Antioxidant levels can aid identification of disease risk in conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. More...
Information from antioxidant status can be used to optimize treatment regimes. The TAS kit can also be employed for food and beverage analysis and to assess the antioxidant potential of drugs.

Antioxidants help defend the body against free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules that have been implicated in the development of over 100 diseases affecting all major organs in the body. Many diseases have been associated with low antioxidant levels.

The Randox (Crumlin, UK) TAS kit is a cost-effective, easy to use method that provides rapid analysis and can be automated on most clinical chemistry analyzers. Calibrators and controls are available to enhance testing facilities. Antioxidant products available from Randox include albumin, bilirubin, ferritin, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxide, superoxide dismutase, total iron binding content, transferrin, and uric acid.

Randox develops, manufactures, and markets clinical diagnostic products worldwide. It's core products are biochip array technology; clinical chemistry analyzers and reagents; quality controls; and recombinant proteins and antibodies.
