High-Performance Liquid-Chromatography Analyzer Effectively Monitors Diabetes

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 07 Oct 2008
Ion exchange, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) effectively and accurately determines glycohemoglobin (HbA1c) in diabetes patients.

The glycohemoglobin analyzer, called G8, has a compact footprint and it can be used in nearly every lab. More...
It provides fast results with an HbA1c analysis time of only 1.6 minutes. The system is very easy to use and includes a simple touchscreen operation, automatic startup, and automated daily maintenance.

A product of Tosoh Bioscience (South San Francisco, CA, USA), the G8 analyzer has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA; Rockville, MD, USA).

The analyzer has direct primary tube sampling and cap piercing, eliminating the need for pre-treatment of samples. A variety of different sized tubes can be loaded continuously. The operator can also run primary and secondary tubes in the same rack. The G8 easily adapts to changing laboratory workloads by offering a choice of either a 90-sample loader or a 290-sample loader.

The system is used for in vitro diagnostic measurement of HbA1c in blood specimens. The G8 uses a nonporous column and microcomputer technology to quickly and accurately measure the stable portion of HbA1c as a percentage of the total amount of hemoglobin present in the sample. The G8 provides accurate and precise separation of HbA1c from other hemoglobin fractions.

The analyzer also provides in depth analysis of patients with hemoglobin variants can be achieved by a simple mode change to the ß-thalassemia program.

Tosoh Bioscience is a world leader in the development of diagnostic products for HPLC and diabetes monitoring.
