Technion and Cleveland Clinic in Joint Research Initiative

A joint research and education program in molecular medicine and biomedical engineering has been announced by Technion (Haifa, Israel) and The Cleveland Clinic (OH, USA). More...


The collaboration will begin with five research projects in the fields of cardiology and orthopedics. The projects will focus on tissue engineering, heart stem-cell research, and fine mechanics and sophisticated robotics in orthopedics. Technion is ranked among the world's leading science and technology universities. The Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion, focused on research education, has gained broad recognition in the fields of cardiology, neurologic diseases, stem cell research, and protein degradation.

The Cleveland Clinic integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education in a private, not-for-profit group practice. It is ranked as one of the best US hospitals. The Lerner Research Institute at The Cleveland Clinic received more than US$125 million in grants lasts year and created 113 new inventions. The Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Florida have 1,100 full-time doctors representing more than 100 medical specialties and subspecialties.

"We already have begun discussing a fellowship program,” said Paul E. DiCorleto, Ph.D., chairman of The Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute, "and we expect our research will result in innovative medical products that will benefit patients in the Untied States, Israel, and throughout the world, as well as engendering new economic growth in Haifa and Cleveland.”
