Workstation Automates Microarray Processing

A new workstation completely automates the processing of microscope slide-based protein microarrays.

The workstation can automate almost any protein microarray assay, says the developer, PerkinElmer Life Sciences (Boston, MA, USA). The system was developed to use very low sample volumes, which is particularly important where sample amounts are small.

An additional capability of the system is the Tyramide Signal Amplification (TSA) chemistries. TSA employs an enzyme-mediated detection method that uses the catalytic activity of horseradish peroxidase to generate high-density labeling of a target protein. The workstation has been validated for a number of key assays, including protein expression analysis, selection of content and high specificity binders, antibody profiling, and protein-protein interaction sites.

Recently, PerkinElmer announced the availability of its Micromax Human cDNA Microarray System II-TSA, a complete system incorporating gene content from Incyte Genomics (Palo Alto, CA, USA). The microarray features sequence-verified human drug target genes mined from Incyte's LifeSeq Gold database and PerkinElmer's TSA amplification technology. "With Incyte Genomics, PerkinElmer Life Sciences can now offer its customers a microarray solution from the largest collection of gene content currently available,” said Paul Gillyon, vice president and general manager, Biomics, PerkinElmer.
