New Electronic Pipette Simplifies Liquid Handling Tasks

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 23 Mar 2015
A new generation of electronic pipettes was designed to make routine liquid handling tasks easier for biotechnology and other life science laboratory workers.

The Analytik Jena (Jena, Germany) CyBi-SELMA is a semi-automatic electronic pipette, equipped with 96 or 384 parallel working tips with a volume range from five microliters to one milliliter.

The CyBi-SELMA accepts different types of microplates and reservoirs, and its open design allows the processing of any 96- or 384- well microplates as well as the use of accessories such as shakers. More...
Due to its compact footprint the instrument can be used in any commercially available clean bench, thereby preventing any potential cross-contamination.

The easy operation of the CyBi-SELMA is due to its intuitive multilingual (German, English, Chinese, Japanese, or Russian) touch screen user interface. All manual operating tasks such as tip or plate changes are shown on the display. In addition, any kind of liquid handling parameter such as dispense height, volume, and pipetting speed are memorized, retrievable, and changeable at any time. Microplates of varying heights and well dimensions can be handled by CyBi-SELMA, as the pipetting head position can be precisely adjusted via a simple dial. Optimal immersion depth of the tips can be adjusted in the same way.

Automatic tip tightening avoids laborious manual adjustments and use of preloaded CyBi-TipTrays enables rapid execution of operations within seconds.
