New Dense Storage System Doubles Cryogenic Storage Capacity

By utilizing a new cryostorage system biotech and other life science researchers will be able almost to double their ultralow temperature storage capacity without having to invest in more equipment.

(Milford, MA, USA) introduced the Dense Storage System for ultralow temperature storage. The system combines one milliliter (rather than the standard two milliliter) Thermo Scientific Nunc CryoBank tubes with new 13 x 13 tube dividers and Nunc CryoBoxes, which are available in either plastic or cardboard. Thermo Fishers says that this novel Dense Storage format effectively doubles existing storage capacity, which can reduce costs by up to 50% while decreasing energy use.

Tube dividers may also be purchased separately in order to retrofit existing CryoBoxes for additional flexibility. Optional barcodes on the Nunc CryoBank tubes enable precise tracking and traceability.

Thermo Fisher recommends using its novel CryoBank Picker Pen, which has been designed to fit into the top of each tube to uncap or move it between racks. In line with the theme of increased flexibility, it also doubles as a ballpoint pen.
