New Energy-Efficient Biologic Safety Cabinets Round Out the Modern Laboratory

A series of biologic safety cabinets brings the business of protecting biotechnology and biomedical researchers from contamination by bacteria, viruses, or plasmids into line with the demands of the environmentally conscious scientific community.

Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA, USA) has announced the introduction of their most energy-efficient series of biologic safety cabinets, the 1300 A2 series. More...
Cabinets included in this line are available with either coated interior or one-piece stainless steel interior options. Both offer a reduced airflow using a smaller 20.3-cm aperture to extend the life of the HEPA (high efficiency particulate absorbing) filters by 20% while requiring only 180 watts to operate. Lower airflow exhaust also minimizes the cost of laboratory air exchange when these cabinets are thimble-ducted for hazardous applications. "Whisper Quiet” operation at < 63 dBA ensures a comfortable working environment.

Each unit sports an ergonomically angled window sloped at 10o for better comfort and reduced operator fatigue. An easy-to-reach control panel displays important safety and service data on airflow, downflow, and inflow velocities and filter usage status. Front accessible components allow for quick change-outs of HEPA filters and other components.
